The proceedings of the conferences celebrated in Rome on St. Josemaría Escrivá and Blessed Álvaro del Portillo
San Josemaría e il pensiero teologico, vol. II. Javier López Díaz (a cura di), ESC Roma 2014, 442 pp.
The second volume of the Proceedings of the Conference “San Josemaría e il pensiero teologico” (St. Josemaría and Theological Thought) were published recently. This conference took place in the Pontifical University of the Holy Cross in November 2013. This publication contains a selection of the papers contributed by scholars on the message of St. Josemaría divided into three sections: Theology, Canon law and Philosophy.
These submissions allow us to understand the contribution of St. Josemaría to theological thought such as the relationship between divine filiation, inheritance of the earth and secularity, aspects developed by Professor Sánchez Cañizares; the problem of the transformation of work into contemplative prayer studied by Professor Murillo; the preaching of the universal call to holiness before the Second Vatican Council prepared by Professor De Salis based on unpublished autobiographical material preserved in the archives of the Opus Dei Prelature; a study by Professor Miralles of how St. Josemaría understood, in the years leading up to the Second Vatican Council, the relationship between liturgy and Christian life. The Canon Law section features the study of Professor Gómez-Iglesias on the Canonical Path of Opus Dei, which shows how St. Josemaría’s teaching shed light on the important topic of the relationship between charism and juridical institution.
The first volume, published in April 2014, contains the papers presented at the Conference by specialists in various areas of Theology, Canon Law and Philosophy. These presentations contain the response of the different experts to the questions raised ten years before by the then Cardinal Ratzinger, later Benedict XVI, thereby contributing to the renewal of the respective areas of thought through listening to the word of the saints.

Vir fidelis multum laudabitur. Nel centenario della nascita di Mons. Alvaro del Portillo. Pablo Gafaell (a cura di), ESC Roma 2014. Vol. I y II.
The proceedings of the Conference “Vir fidelis multum laudabitur” have been published in two volumes. This conference took place 12-14 of March 2014 in the Pontificia Università della Santa Croce to mark the occasion of the centenary of the birth of Msgr. Álvaro del Portillo.
The first session of the conference focused on the role of Msgr. del Portillo in the history of Opus Dei, whether as son and collaborator of the Founder, or as his first successor. The second session was dedicated to the love of the Blessed Álvaro for the Church, showing how this translates on the one hand into an important contribution to the Second Vatican Council and the new canonical codification and on the other hand, into service to the particular Churches. The third session dealt with some issues related to the spiritual message of Msgr. del Portillo – echoing the teachings of St. Josemaría – such as the New Evangelization, priesthood, reflection on the lay faithful in the Church … as well as other related aspects.
