ABSTRACT: italiano

ABSTRACT: english
Luigi Tirelli joined Opus Dei in 1948 and became the first Italian to be ordained a priest in 1954. A prolific writer, he left behind countless testimonies about his life, the Founder, and the history of Opus Dei in Italy. The text presented here is an autobiographical account concerning the period in which, as a young teacher, he came to know Opus Deiin Rome. The account, written in 1971, is accompanied by a detailed systematic commentary, following meticulous comparative work with other historical sources—both archival and non-archival—in order to verify the accuracy of the recollections. The result is an interesting portrait of a well-educated young Italian, deeply involved in Catholic Action and later in the Catholic University Federation, who, through friendship with several members of Opus Dei, came to understand his own specific path. This complex journey, marked by difficulties and disappointments, came to be understood in a coherent way when Tirelli discovered, almost unexpectedly, what God was calling him to do.
