Müngersdorf Hall of Residence – an Initiative of Saint Josemaría: 1957-
1966: The Founder of Opus Dei during his first visit to a Centre of the Women’s
Section in Germany, on 24th August 1957, had recommended the setting
up of a brand-new student residence in post-war Germany. Only a few months
previously, on 12th October 1956, had a few young Spanish women come to
Cologne in order to establish the apostolic work in Germany. They started—
practically without any financial means—with the setting up of a small student
residence for women in hired accommodation. The aim of this report is
to emphasize how Saint Josemaría had initiated and supported the building
of a residence for women students on the strength of faith and apostolic vision
alone.
