Historians, sociologists, humanists, jurists, students of spirituality and others attracted by the history of contemporary Catholicism have shown interest in the life of St. Josemaria and the development of Opus Dei.
To promote research in these areas, the St. Josemaria de Balaguer Historical Institute has begun publishing a specialized journal in 2007 called Studia et Documenta.
This annual journal accepts academic studies: historical, theological, legal, sociological, etc. It has a section dedicated to the publishing of sources. It also has a section which offers up to date information on the principal academic events related to St. Josemaria and Opus Dei. The journal also contains an extensive bibliography.
